Hitler and the Rise of the Nazis - Holgate History
This section is divided into two:
1. The Rise of Hitler
2. Nazi Germany

Section 1: THE RISE OF HITLER

1. Hitler and the growth of the Nazi Party: Important as this does come up in the exam (the Munich Putsch and the effect that this had on Hitler's popularity)

2. Hitler and the Depression: Hitler used the depression to promise to jobs, wealth and to make Germany stromg again. This also includes the different types of Nazi propaganda (speeches, posters etc) and the effect that it had on people's votes.
3. Hitler becomes Fuhrer (Dictator): This shows the steps that Hitler took in order to make him DICTATOR in 1933 (The Reichstag Fire, the Enabling Law - giving Hitler the right to pass any law that he wanted, the banning of Political Parties, and the Night of the Long Knives)
4. VIDEO: The Reichstag Fire : This shows how Hitler needed something that would shock Germany into thinking it was under threat. When the Reichstag caught fire he blamed the Communists and said they wanted to take over the country by force - he persuaded President Hindenburg to pass a law that gave the police to arrest anyone they wanted: Communists were thrown into prison. A FANTASTIC video.

5. VIDEO: This highlights the different PROPAGANDA methods that the Nazis used. It also explains how they portrayed Jews in Germany. (Listen to the guy's funny voice)

6. VIDEO: How did Hitler become the Chancellor of Germany? A useful video (although the writing is often difficult to read) explaining how Hitler got into power. You may want to ignore the last 30 seconds! PAUSE the video and let it load for a while.
Section 2: NAZI GERMANY

7 VIDEO: Nazi Education: this shows how children were taught to be fit and healthy for war, 'race-studies' were taught and anti-jewish cartoons were shown in class. An excellent video.
8 VIDEO: The Night of the Broken Glass (Kristallnacht): You only need to watch 2 mins 40 seconds ff this - it describes the few days when the Nazis went on the rampage smashing Jewish shops, burning down synagogues, beating up and murdering Jewish people.
9 The main features of Nazi Germany: This inludes things like the Hitler Youth, the SS, the Gestapo, Nazi education and propaganda.
10 How did Hitler control Germany: This shows how the Nazis controlled Germany by a combination of clever propaganda, organisations such as the SS, education and fear.
11 Did people benefit from Nazi rule?: This shows those that some people clearly benefited from Hitler and the Nazis - whilst others clearly did not. This has appeared in the exam on several occasions.
