VIDEO: The Roaring Twenties: This short video highlights many reasons as to why the decade
was known as the 'Roaring Twenties': fashion, dancing (note the dance halls filled by hundreds of people),
new music (up beat jazz), make-up and generally wanting to have a good fashionable time.
(don't know why that dancing woman is on so many times though!!!)



VIDEO: Flappers: This video contains many pictures & photos of flappers duringg the 1920s.
It infers many factors that suggest women's new sense of independence
and desire to have fun: fashionable haircuts, smoking, magazines and even having their
own car! A central reason for why the decade was known as 'the roaring twenties'.



VIDEO: Silent Movies: Here is a clip of Charlie Chaplin in a silent movie.
They were extremely populare at the time as they were yet another new type
of entertainment. People thought clips like this were hilarious.


VIDEO: Prohibition - This is an outstanding video on the banning of alcohol.
It includes the groups against alcohol, speakeasies, the effect of banning
alcohol (organised crime eg: Al Capone)

VIDEO: Prohibition of Alcohol: This is an excellent video on 'a brief history of prohibition'.
Remember: the banning of alcohol led directly to the mafia (Al Capone etc)
making huge sums of money. As a result of this, they were able to bribe policemen
and judges (corruption). Hardly deserving of the title 'The Roaring twenties'.


VIDEO: Ku Klux Klan: A brief history of the KKK. Note that they are still going today
but there are far fewer members than in the 1920s. Many of the photographs
are taken from the time. Does the decade really deserve to be called 'the Roaring twenties?'

VIDEO: Ku Klux Klan: This is an informative video on key aspects of the KKK.
It highlights the fact that it had 4 to 5 million members in the 1920s. The video also includes
clips from a comedy programme that shows a blind black man unaware of his skin colour
and supports 'white power'. The KKK member at the end is the same character.
